Star archer Ruman Sana has announced his retirement from the national team citing personal reasons.

Seeking action in this regard, he has sent a resignation letter to the Bangladesh Archery Federation.

While contacted, the federation's general secretary Kazi Razibuddin Ahmed said, "Ruman Sana has informed us via letter of his decision to cease representing the national team due to personal reasons.”

"We asked him to reconsider the decision, but he remains steadfast," he added.

Ruman Sana was excluded from the Bangladesh contingent that participated in Asia Cup Stage 1 held in Iraq from 20 February to 24 February. Despite being a qualifier in the last Olympics, he did not feature among the archers for whom the federation intended to seek a wild card entry for the upcoming Olympics.

Ruman Sana's achievements in archery are noteworthy. In the 2019 World Archery Championships, he secured a bronze medal in the recurve singles event, marking a historic achievement as the first Bangladeshi archer to claim a medal in the competition.

Additionally, he clinched gold in the men's singles recurve category at the 2019 Asia Cup in the Philippines.

His successes continued as he, along with Diya Siddique, secured a silver medal in the recurve mixed team event during the 2021 Archery World Cup, where Bangladesh emerged as runners-up to the Netherlands in the final.

Sana was suspended from all international and domestic competitions for two years due to disciplinary reasons in November 2022.
