Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is “repeating the same old drama after being released from prison.”

“Mirza Fakhrul has started repeating the same old drama after walking out of prison. In his statement, he said the party would turn around. We don't know what they mean,” He said during a press conference at the political office of the Awami League president in Dhanmondi on Saturday (17 February) morning.

“There is no objective position for movement in Bangladesh,” he added.

Obaidul Quader said the BNP started the politics of bloodshed and conspiracy in Bangladesh.

“They [BNP] committed the most disgraceful murder in the history of human civilization. Whose mastermind was Khandaker Mushtaq along with Ziaur Rahman. They want to impose the charges against on Awami League now,” the AL leader said.

Awami League organizing secretary Mirza Azam, Abu Saeed Al Mahmud Swapan, Sujit Roy Nandi, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan, executive members Shahabuddin Faraji, Parveen Zaman, ABM Riazul Kabir Kawshar and others were also present in the press conference.

On 15 February, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Amir Khasur were released from jail today after three and a half months.

The release came a day after the top BNP leaders secured bail in a case filed over the vandalism of the chief justice's residence, paving the way for their release.

Hundreds of party leaders and activists greeted them at the jail gate.

After being arrested on 29 October last year, Fakhrul was denied bail four times by the High Court and lower courts. Khasru had also been denied bail in the same case.

BNP activists and police clashed during the party's grand rally in the capital. Over the incident,

Fakhrul was sued in 11 cases, while Khasru was accused in 10 cases following the violence centring BNP’s grand rally in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan area on 28 October. He had already been awarded bail in 10 cases and Khasru in nine cases.

Earlier the day, BNP Publicity Secretary and Media Cell Member Shahid Uddin Annie was freed from Kashimpur Central Jail.

Annie was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence on 10 October night.
