On 22 September 1965, a ceasefire brokered by the United Nations took effect, bringing an end to the Indo-Pakistani War, a conflict marked by intense battles over the disputed Kashmir region.
After weeks of fierce fighting, both nations were pressured by international calls for peace, and the agreement was reached under the auspices of the UN Security Council.
Although the war had strained both countries’ military and economic resources, the ceasefire did not resolve the underlying territorial disputes, which continue to shape Indo-Pakistani relations to this day.
