Finance and Science and Technology Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed said the interim government has requested $3 billion in financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and urged caution to ensure that this financial aid is not wasted, reminding everyone that significant sums have been squandered in the past, and emphasising that the people’s money will no longer be misused.

He made these remarks during a meeting at the conference room of the Ministry of Science and Technology at the secretariat on Thursday (5 September).

The meeting was attended by the heads of various departments and agencies under the ministry.

Addressing the leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s departments and agencies, the adviser stressed the critical role that science and technology play in implementing the country’s development activities.

He highlighted that if the outputs of scientific research are not utilised, the nation’s development will lack significance. He also mentioned that livestock and fishery production in the country has increased, marking notable progress.

"People should realise that there is a Ministry of Science and Technology. The ministry’s responsibilities do not end with Rooppur. You must prove your worth through your work," he added.

He further stated that if the contributions made by the ministry to society or the nation are deemed a failure, the public will voice their discontent.

Although change may not come immediately, efforts must be made to gradually improve and contribute more effectively.

Clarifying his role, the adviser said, “I have taken on responsibilities, not power, and I will need everyone's cooperation.”

He also instructed the Ministry of Science and Technology to bring momentum to its ongoing development activities while ensuring transparency and accountability.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Science and Technology, including Senior Secretary Md. Mokabbir Hossain, along with other high-ranking officials from various departments and agencies within the ministry.
