BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has stressed the need for an early election to uphold democratic practices.

Rizvi said the interim government is the result of a unified movement involving all stakeholders, including the BNP. "The victory achieved on 5 August through the removal of Sheikh Hasina was possible due to BNP's commitment to upholding democracy."

Rizvi made these remarks during a dua-mahfil programme held at the party office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, in memory of the martyrs of the movement against the fascist regime.

He said the BNP's relief efforts for flood victims are not receiving adequate media coverage, while certain leaders are being highlighted in a way he finds suspicious.

Rizvi also criticised those downplaying the BNP's role in the fall of the Awami League, accusing them of attempting to create division within the party.

In a veiled reference to Jamaat-e-Islami, he reminded the public that another party, along with the Awami League, participated in the election under the dictatorship of Ershad.
