A case has been filed against seven justices of the Appellate Division, including three former chief justices, on charges of contempt of court.
Advocate Yunus Ali Akond, a lawyer at the Supreme Court, filed the case in the relevant branch of the High Court on Wednesday (28 August).
The three former chief justices named in the case are Syed Mahmud Hossain, Hasan Foez Siddique, and Obaidul Hassan.
The other four former justices of the Appellate Division named in the case are Syed Imman Ali, Mirza Hussain Haider, Abu Bakar Siddique, and Mohammad Nuruzzaman.
The plaintiff alleges that on 27 September 2020, the justices abused their power and violated the law of contempt of court by punishing Advocate Yunus Ali Akond without providing him the opportunity for a hearing. At that time, he was barred from practising law for three months.
