Adani Power, which operates a 1.6 GW coal-fired plant in Godda, Jharkhand, and supplies electricity through a dedicated transmission corridor, has resumed full electricity generation capacity through both its units after resolving a technical fault that had led to the shutdown of its second unit on 13 August.

Since then, the company had been meeting Bangladesh's demand for electricity using only the first unit.

At 10:10pm Bangladesh time on Monday (26 August), the second unit also returned to production.

According to Adani sources, on Tuesday (27 August) at 8:00am, the first unit generated 513.32 megawatts, and the second unit produced 668.57 megawatts.

By 1:00pm, production had increased to 593.35 megawatts from the first unit and 763.94 megawatts from the second unit.

In a statement, the company assured that despite one unit being offline, they maintained constant communication with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB).

It was further clarified that the recent amendment to India's energy law will not impact the electricity supply agreement between the two countries. The amendment has created opportunities to supply electricity to India alongside Bangladesh.

Adani remains committed to uninterrupted electricity supply under the agreement, despite having nearly $800 million in outstanding dues.

Bangladesh imports 1600 megawatts of electricity from this power plant in India, which is transmitted through Rohanpur in Chapainawabganj.

The first unit of the power plant began supplying an average of 750 megawatts of electricity in March 2023, with the second unit commencing production in June.
