A three-member United Nations delegation has arrived in Dhaka to investigate allegations of human rights violations linked to the recent student protests.
The delegation, which landed in the capital late on Thursday (22 August), is expected to stay in Bangladesh for approximately a week as part of its initial technical mission.
The delegation is scheduled to visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They are set to hold talks with ambassador Riaz Hamidullah, who currently serves as the assistant foreign secretary at the ministry.
Led by Rory Mungoven, Head of the Asia-Pacific region at the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the team will engage in discussions about the initial fact-finding mission.
During their stay in Dhaka, the delegation will meet with various stakeholders to finalise the framework, process, and conditions of their work.
UN delegation would also meet with advisers and hold discussions with various government authorities and representatives of civil society.
