A murder case has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 48 others in connection with the killing of a student during a police firing in the Tejgaon area of Dhaka.

The victim, Md Tawhidul Hoque, was an aspiring university admission candidate. The case was filed by Tawhidul’s brother, Tariqul Islam, at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Wednesday (21 August).

Other notable accused in the case include Awami League General Secretary and former Road and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, formerLaw Minister Anisul Huq, Sheikh Hasina’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman, former Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, former State Minister for Information and Broadcast Muhammad Ali Arafat, Anwar Hossain Monju, Rashed Khan Menon, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdullah Al Mamun, and former Dhaka Metropolitan Commissioner Habibur Rahman.

The incident occurred on 4 August, when Md Tawhidul Hoque was shot and killed by police near the Farmgate foot overbridge in the Tejgaon area during a student movement.
