Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur said action will be taken against individuals involved in financial misconduct, while institutions themselves will not be penalised, recognising the employment concerns tied to such entities.

"We will take action against those who are involved in misconduct, but not against the institutions. This is because many jobs are associated with each institution," he said during a press conference held following a board meeting at Bangladesh Bank on Tuesday (20 August).

He further mentioned that considerations are ongoing regarding measures against weaker banks, emphasising that no hasty decisions will be made.

Dispelling any speculation about the withdrawal of the Tk1,000 notes, the Governor clearly stated that there are no such plans under consideration.

When asked whether banknotes featuring the signature of the new governor would be introduced soon, Dr Mansur remarked, "New notes will be printed when necessary, and they will bear the appropriate signature."
