The interim government can now appoint administrators for local administrations like city corporations, zilla and upazila parishads under certain conditions.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has given approval to the recommendation made by advisory council to amend four related laws.

According to a gazette notification, two provisions have been included in the Local Government (City Corporation) Ordinance-2024.

A clause states that, in special circumstances, the government may remove any Mayor-Councilor and Chairman-Vice-Chairman, Woman Vice-Chairman or other members in public interest.

Another clause states that, in special circumstances, the government may, if it considers it necessary, appoint a competent person or a competent officer engaged in the work of the Republic as an administrator to carry out functions in the public interest.
