A young man was beaten to death, allegedly by leaders and activists of the BNP in Barishal.

Rashed Sikder, 24, an alleged activist of the Chhatra League, was attacked on Friday evening in Boro Dulali village under Barthi union of Gaurnadi upazila.

The victim’s father, Kalam Sikder, said, "Rashed had been working at a plastic factory in Dhaka for a long time. He returned home on Friday, when a group of BNP men attacked him as part of a premeditated plan."

Gaurnadi Model Thana’s Officer-in-Charge, Anwar Hossain, said Rashed was initially transferred from Gaurnadi Upazila Health Complex to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. He was later moved to Dhaka, where he died while undergoing treatment that same night.

He added that members of the army and police visited the scene on Saturday morning. The filing of a case regarding his death is underway.
