Earlier, police today sought a 10-day remand to interrogate former director general of National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) and Ex-Major General Ziaul.

A Dhaka court has granted an eight-day remand to interrogate former army officer Major General Ziaul Ahsan, in a shop employee murder case under Newmarket thana.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arfatul Rakib passed the order on Friday after hearing the case and sent Ziaul Ahsan to police custody for interrogation, while lawyer of Ziaul Ahsan pleaded to cancel his remand and sought bail.

Earlier, police today sought a 10-day remand to interrogate former director general of National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) and Ex-Major General Ziaul.

Ziaul Ahsan, a 2-Star rank Bangladesh Army officer, was arrested from Dhaka's Khilkhet last night (15 August). 

On 6 August, Bangladesh Army made a major reshuffle in its top posts with Major General Ziaul Ahsan, popularly known as Major Zia, being relieved from service and some others being reassigned.

He was replaced as NTMC director general by Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman.

Major General Ziaul Ahsan has been serving as director general of NTMC since 2022. Prior to that, he was the director of that company. 

Ziaul Ahsan became the vice-captain of RAB-2 in 2009 when he was a major. 

He was promoted to lieutenant colonel and appointed director of the intelligence wing of the RAB headquarters the same year.
