Acting on a tip-off, police have arrested private industry adviser to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Salman F Rahman and former law minister Anisul Huq at Sadarghat in the capital.
"They were attempting to flee by waterway," Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mainul Hasan said on Tuesday (13 August) evening.
"The arrests were made in connection with a case filed at New Market Police Station," he added.
