Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Advisor Nahid Islam has said certain clauses of the Cyber Security Act (CSA) that threaten freedom of expression will be reassessed.

In a statement made on Monday following a meeting with ICT Division officials in Agargaon, Dhaka, Nahid Islam said, "In our initial discussions, we have acknowledged that the clauses of the Cyber Security Act that have faced criticism will need to be reconsidered."

He assured that the law will not impede freedom of expression if it exists after reconsideration. The CSA, which came into effect in 2023, has raised significant concerns about its impact on freedom of speech in the country.

The act replaced the widely criticized Digital Security Act of 2018, but retained or rephrased many controversial provisions, leading to ongoing debate about its effects on journalists, activists, and the general public.
