Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, has alleged that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is responsible for the ongoing instability in Bangladesh.

"Based on the surrounding evidence, I am fairly certain that the Pakistani ISI is involved," Joy said during an interview with PTI while residing in the United States on Friday (9 August).

"The attacks and protests were highly coordinated, meticulously planned, and purposefully inflamed through social media. No matter what measures the government takes to control the situation, they continue to exacerbate it," he added.

Joy further claimed that the attacks on police, the burning of police stations, and assaults on minority communities are the result of incitement by terrorist organisations and foreign powers.

He also alleged that these extremist groups and external forces are attempting to destabilise Bangladesh by supplying arms.

During the interview, Joy also spoke about Sheikh Hasina's return to Bangladesh.

He remarked, "Sheikh Hasina will return to Bangladesh only when democracy is restored. However, it has not yet been decided whether she will return as an active politician. Members of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman family have never abandoned the people of Bangladesh, and they will not abandon the Awami League during this difficult time."
