Dr Md Asif Nazrul Islam, popularly known as Asif Nazrul, is a prominent Bangladeshi author, novelist, political analyst, constitutional expert, and columnist. He is one of the 17 eminent individuals who has been appointed as an adviser to Bangladesh's interim government.
Born on 12 January 1966, he has made significant contributions to both academia and public discourse.
Professionally, he is a professor of law at the University of Dhaka.
Nazrul completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in law at the University of Dhaka in 1986 and 1987, respectively.
He subsequently earned a PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, in 1999.
Following this, he secured a postdoctoral fellowship at the Environmental Law Centre in Bonn, Germany. His academic journey also included a stint as a Commonwealth Fellow at SOAS.
Prior to joining the faculty of the University of Dhaka, Nazrul worked as a journalist for the widely circulated weekly magazine, Bichitra.
He has also served as a magistrate in the Bangladeshi government.
Nazrul is married to Sheela Ahmed, daughter of the renowned Bangladeshi author Humayun Ahmed.
