A violent confrontation erupted between police and protesters at the CMM court premises in the capital.

Over a hundred protesters breached the collapsible gate of the court at around 12pm on Sunday (4 August).

The gate had been cordoned off by police since the morning.

The demonstrators targeted the court area with brick chunks, causing significant damage to doors and windows.

It lead to an abrupt halt in court proceedings.

During the unrest, two prison vans and two police cars were vandalised by unidentified individuals.

In response, the police deployed a series of sound grenades and tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

As of the latest update, all court proceedings remain suspended.
