Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has announced an extension for the validity period of vehicle fitness certificates, tax tokens, advance income tax papers, route permits, and driving licences.

This extension comes in the wake of significant damage to the BRTA's headquarters in Banani, Dhaka, caused by arson and vandalism on 18 and 19 July, said a public notification issued by the road transport regulatory authority on Thursday (1 August).

According to the notification, the validity of documents that expired on 19 July or are set to expire on 15 September will now remain valid until 16 September.

To ensure continued validity, vehicle owners must pay the original taxes and fees without incurring any fines, it added.

The attack on the BRTA headquarters resulted in substantial damage to servers and information systems, leading to a suspension of critical services, including the renewal of fitness certificates, tax tokens, route permits, and driving licences, as well as the collection of advance income tax and vehicle registration services.
