E-commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) President Shomi Kaiser urged the government to avoid shutting down the internet and social media platforms like Facebook, as it did during the quota reforms protests.

"I will say please never shut down the internet and Facebook like this," said Shomi Kaiser at a press conference at the business body's office in Banani on Wednesday (31 July).

E-CAB held the press conference to inform the media about the problems its members faced due to the closures of the internet and Facebook, where a significant number of e-commerce entrepreneurs conduct their business.

Shomi Kaiser stated that, on average, the e-commerce industry incurred around Tk1 crore and 20 lakh per day during the closures of the internet and social media platforms.

She mentioned that the e-commerce industry in the country incurred around Tk1,400 crore in just 10 days during the quota reforms movement.

She welcomed the government's decision to lift the restriction on the internet and Facebook. She also expressed that they want the government to outline a Business Contingency Plan to minimize impact in the future.
