Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will be banned as a political party by executive order by Wednesday (31 July).

The minister made the announcement during a discussion with journalists at the Secretariat on Tuesday (30 July).

A meeting held at Ganabhaban chaired by PM Sheikh Hasina with the leader of the 14-party alliance reached a consensus to ban the political activities of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Shibir on Monday (29 July).

The 14-party alliance members urged the government to take necessary measures in this regard.

Following the meeting, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader briefed journalists waiting at the gates of Ganabhaban, stating that the Awami League-led 14-party alliance had unanimously decided to ban the political activities of Jamaat-e-Islami and Shibir due to their alleged involvement in creating chaos and instability in the country.
