Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has directed mobile telecom operators to bring back 1-day and 3-day internet packages.

The matter was discussed during a meeting concerning the restoration of mobile internet and the provision of free data packs on Sunday (28 July).

The meeting included representatives from the Information and Communication Technology Division, the BTRC, and the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh.

Following the meeting, State Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak indicated that the new packages would be implemented.

Mobile operators began launching the 1-day and 3-day packs following the BTRC instructions.

In September of 2023, the BTRC ordered mobile operators to reduce their number of data packages from 95 to 40 and set a minimum duration of 7 days for any data package.

BTRC's order, executed on 15 October 2023, had previously mandated longer-duration packages, which negatively affected sales since approximately 70% of data packages sold were for three days or less.

This led to a decline in the number of mobile internet users over the following months.
