Zahidul Islam, Associate Professor of Management Studies at Jahangirnagar University (JU), has resigned from his position in a voluntary act of protest against the nationwide attacks on students involved in the quota reform movement.

Zahidul Islam submitted his resignation letter to the Vice-Chancellor through the university registrar on Wednesday (25 July).

In his resignation letter, he wrote, "The recent violence and anarchy in the country, along with the government's indifference and the partisan attitudes of some teachers, have deeply saddened me. I have always spoken out for truth and justice and stood by students in their rightful demands."

He further stated, "Due to the government's aggressive stance against the justified movement for quota reform, many innocent students have lost their lives. If the government had accepted the students' demands promptly, these casualties could have been avoided."

Professor Zahidul Islam also mentioned, "The killing of students, including school, college, and university students, as well as the brutal treatment of some protesting teachers, surpasses the barbarity of 1971. Despite witnessing these atrocities, I have seen the university administration and teachers remain indifferent."

To awaken the moral and ethical consciousness of the entire teaching community in Bangladesh, I am voluntarily resigning from my position as Associate Professor of the Management Studies Department at Jahangirnagar University.

Regarding this issue, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nurul Amin said, "Teacher Zahidul Islam has submitted a voluntary resignation application, which our registrar has received. I have not yet reviewed the resignation letter. I will provide further details later."
