Security measures have been heightened in the Dhaka University (DU) area as the quota reform activists' shutdown programme is underway.

Entrances to DU were fortified with police barricades, allowing only media personnel to enter the campus on Thursday (18 July).

Traffic has been restricted in the Shahbagh area. While sporadic public transport movement was seen, personal vehicles were conspicuously absent.

A thorough security blanket was cast over the entire university to prevent any untoward incidents during the shutdown programme.

Ansar forces particularly encircled the TSC and the Raju Sculpture, while police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members were visible around the Vice-Chancellor’s residence.

In line with the university syndicate's decision, students were instructed to vacate all residential halls by 6pm on Wednesday (17 July).

Consequently, by the deadline, students had collected their belongings and left, resulting in an unusually quiet hall area devoid of its usual bustle.

The entire DU campus saw police and BGB patrols ensuring strict compliance with the security measures.
