Heavy early morning rains under the influence of monsoon caused severe waterlogging in several parts of the capital city of Dhaka.

The rain which began around 6:30am on Friday (12 July) led to waterlogging in several areas including Malibagh, Moghbazar, Shantinagar, Farmgate, Badda, Mirpur, and Khilkhet.

However, the rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, helped to alleviate the temperature.

The presence of traffic on the road has been thin since morning.

The downpour also caused significant hardships for examinees of the 18th teacher registration written exam in Dhaka this morning. Also, working people who come out from the home at the beginning of the day face difficulty reaching workstations.

A met office forecast issued for the next 24 hours beginning from 9am Thursday (11 July) said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over eight divisions with heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna,

Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country,” it reads.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across Northern part of Bangladesh, said the met office.

It also said monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong over North Bay.
