The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has alerted the residents of central and south Dhaka of possible traffic gridlock on city roads in anticipation of students and job seekers' Bangla Blockade protest against the quota system and the Hindu community's religious programme, Ratha Yatra.

DMP Public Relations Division’s Additional Deputy Commissioner KN Roy, in a message on Saturday night, asked the residents of Ramna, Motijheel, and Wari to leave home for their destinations with additional time in hand due to the programmes.

The anti-quota protesters announced a Bangla Blockade programme across the country, including Dhaka, on Sunday. Due to the continuous protest against the quota system, city commuters experienced traffic jams even on Friday in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, the Hindu community is due to bring out a Ratha Yatra around 3pm from ISKCON Swamibag Temple, which will end at Dhakeshwari National Temple after parading various roads.

DMP asked city dwellers to use alternative routes during the Ratha Yatra.
