There is no precedent of the government sparing anyone once corruption is proven, Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain said on Monday (1 July).

"There will be no sympathy for those involved in corruption. The government is taking action as soon as such activities come to its notice. The entire government mechanism is working together to combat corruption," he said in response to a question during a post-cabinet meeting briefing at the Secretariat.

He further mentioned that the Prime Minister has emphasised maintaining transparency and accuracy in budget implementation.

The Secretary noted that the draft of the Export Policy 2024-27 was approved during today's cabinet meeting as the previous three-year policy term has ended.

He said Bangladesh will lose certain privileges following its transition to a developing country, thus necessitating a focus on specific aspects of the export policy.

While approving the policy, the Prime Minister has urged the government to prioritise measures to enhance the export of vegetables, fruits, and herbs to international markets, improve the quality of domestic products, and support the production and export of electronic devices, said the cabinet secretary.

At the meeting, the proposal to form a company for the maintenance of the Padma Bridge was approved by the cabinet.

The initial capital for this company will be Tk1,000 crore.
