The new managing director and chief executive officer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Jahid Islam Bhuiyan has vowed to make the national flag-carrier corruption-free.

"No one can progress by corruption. Measures have been taken in this regard. Corruption is not acceptable in any way," he said during a press briefing on Sunday (30 June).

"We want to solve the ticket problem completely so that no more questions arise in the future. That is why we have already given a warning to the online travel agencies," he added.

Last year, Biman crossed the milestone of Tk 10,000 crore in revenue. Hoping to exceed that target this year too, he said, "We are expecting an income of Tk1,200 crores from cargo. It will be a huge achievement to get ISO certification for ground handling. We are doing well in various departments."

"Biman has been upgraded from medium-risk category to low-risk category," the airline's MD said.

He also said Biman will be an airline of 47 fleets by 2034.

"In the meantime, 6 aircraft of the existing 21 fleet will be phased out. So, we have to add 32 new aircraft by the next decade to achieve the expansion plan," he added.
