The government is maintaining strict surveillance along the Myanmar border, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Sunday.

Quader made these remarks at a press conference held at the Awami League President's political office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Addressing the situation in St Martin's Island, Quader criticised BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for his irresponsible comments, saying, "Fakhrul lacks understanding of the situation."

Quader clarified that the recent shooting incident in St. Martin's was carried out by the Arakan Army, not the Myanmar state forces.

He said food-carrying vessels are regularly traveling to St. Martin's Island and emphasised that Bangladesh seeks to resolve issues through dialogue, without the need for conflict with Myanmar.

Quader dismissed rumors about the occupation of St Martin's Island as false and misleading.

Quader reiterated, "We have never and will never bow down to anyone. A few days ago, members of the Myanmar border guard sought refuge in Bangladesh, and they were sent back. Bangladesh is maintaining strict vigilance at the Myanmar border, and we remain alert."
