Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar was offered the prime ministerial position by the INDIA bloc to entice him into the alliance, but he declined, as claimed by party leader KC Tyagi in an exclusive interview with NDTV.

"Such is the game of politics that those who had refused to make Nitish Kumar INDIA bloc’s national convenor have been now making offers to make Nitish PM," said KC Tyagi, a leader of  Janata Dal (United) during the interview.

Tyagi accused Congress and other parties of mistreating Nitish Kumar, affirming that JD(U) would not return to the INDIA bloc.

Nitish Kumar, who was pivotal in forming the INDIA bloc in 2023, rejoined the NDA alliance earlier this year.

In response, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal denied any knowledge of such an offer.

“We don't have any such information,” said Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, at the press conference after the Congress Working Committee meeting.

Meanwhile, Nitish expressed his support for Narendra Modi as the leader of the NDA, emphasising the coalition’s potential for national progress.

“All the pending works of Bihar will be done. It is a very good thing that all of us have come together and we will all work together with you (PM Modi). You will be swearing in as the Prime Minister on Sunday, but I wanted you to do it today itself. Whenever you take the oath, we will be with you…We will all work together under your leadership," Nitish Kumar said.

JD(U), having secured 12 seats, became a crucial ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition.
