Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan has termed the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 as a "lantern of imagination."

The BNP leader expressed his reaction following Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali's presentation of a Tk7,96,900 crore budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 at the Parliament on Thursday (6 June).

He said, “In a word, this entire budget process is a tool arranged by the Awami League government to exploit the poor people of this country. This budget is a lantern of imagination. It is just a cruel game with the people struggling with the economic crisis.”

"The budget has nothing to do with the future of the country. After the election drama of the government in this oligarchic state system, this budget for the next financial year reminds the people of yet another pathetic and heartbreaking deception.”

He added, “A fundamental issue is that the Awami League is occupying power today by force. Therefore, this unrepresentative government has no moral right to decide the fate of the 18 crore people of this country, and this is the biggest misfortune of Bangladesh today.”
