At least three people, including two women and a child, were killed in a thunderstorm in Thakurgaon early Saturday (1 June).
The victims are Farida Begum, 40, and Jaheda Begum, 50, of Shaldanga village in Paria Union. Additionally, a 2.5-year-old child drowned during the storm.
Upon visiting the area, our district correspondent found that 12 villages in Paria Union and 8 villages in Borobari union were severely damaged by the storm that hit the areas around 5am. Trees were uprooted, and the sheds of several raw houses were blown away.
Baliadangi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Afsana Kawsar said local union parishad chairmen and upazila parishad officials are working to assess the damage in the affected areas.
Thakurgaon-2 MP Md Mazharul Islam expressed his grief over the deaths and assured assistance after visiting the affected areas.
