US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu has arrived in Dhaka.

He was received at the airport by Ministry of Foreign Affairs North America Division Director General  Masudul Alam and the US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas.

He arrived in Dhaka on a Sri Lankan Airlines flight around 11:30am on Tuesday (14 May).

During this visit, the US diplomat will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Affairs Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen.

Lu will also meet with government officials, civil society leaders, and other Bangladeshis to discuss US-Bangladesh cooperation, including on addressing the climate crisis and deepening economic ties, according to the spokesperson at the US Department of State.

Earlier, Foreign Secretary Masud Momen said all elements of the mutual relations - political, economic and even security issues will be tabled in the discussion.

Meanwhile, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said Donald Lu is coming to Bangladesh to take ahead the relations between Bangladesh and the USA.

He also said Donald Lu is paying a visit to Bangladesh to follow up the letter sent by US President Joe Biden congratulating Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her reelection in the 12th national elections.
