The Border Security Force (BSF) of India opened fire on a trader while he was smuggling cattle through the Putkhali border area in Benapole, Jashore, early Monday.

Amjad Ali, 48, from Krishnapur village in the Putkhali union, was admitted to Jashore Sadar Hospital with bullet injuries, said Putkhali Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Gaffer.

According to the victim’s relatives, Amjad sustained bullet injuries in Angrail inside India while bringing in cattle. Those who were accompanying him brought him home.

When contacted, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Khurshid Anwer, captain of Khulna Border Guard Battalion-21, said they have not received any information regarding the BSF firing on the Bangladeshi man yet. "We will look after the matter," he added.

Earlier on April 3, two Bangladeshi nationals — Shafiqul Islam alias Dalim, 32, and Pias Babu, 35 — were killed in BSF shooting.
