Despite there being no shortage of supply, the prices of almost every daily essential commodity have increased on the pretext of the heat waves sweeping across the country.
Traders say there is adequate supply but high prices are due to items rotting faster than before because of the severe heat waves.
However, the price of broiler chicken has decreased slightly compared to week.
Visiting the capital's Karwan Bazar kitchen market on Friday (3 May), broiler chicken was found to be selling at Tk190-200 per kg, which was Tk220-230 per kg last week.
Beef was being sold at Tk780-800 per kg while mutton was at Tk1,100 per kg.
Meanwhile, the price of vegetables has increased compared to last week, citing less supply due to last night's rain.
No vegetable was being sold for less than Tk60-70.
Carrots were being sold at Tk60, beans at Tk80, and eggplants at Tk100 per kg.
A hali (set of four) of lemons was being sold at Tk40.
Prices of fish have not increased much compared to last week.
Hossain Ali, a resident of Moghbazar, came to the kitchen market for his weekly grocery shopping.
“The price of fish seems to be the same as before. But the price of vegetables is increasing day by day,” he said.
