More than 100,000 citizens have enrolled on the Universal Pension Scheme (UPS) since it was launched nine months ago on 17 August last year.

The pension initiative, which had 54,647 participants as of 16 April, quickly exceeded 100,000 registrations within 13 days following the first pension fair and workshop in Rajshahi, according to a press release issued by the pension scheme authorities today (April 29).

The National Pension Authority plans to extend such events across all seven divisions.

The UPS includes four primary sub-schemes: Probash, Pragati, Surokkha, and Samata, designed to cater to various sectors of the population.

The government, later, introduced the Prottoy scheme for new employees of autonomous, state-owned, and other statutory organisations.

The scheme also offers a government subsidy of Tk500 for low-income individuals who contribute Tk500 monthly, doubling their investment from the start.

According to the pension rules, in the universal pension system, the more money one puts in as a deposit, the greater the pension they will be able to draw at the end of the term.
