11 killed in three-way collision between car, truck and auto-rickshaw in Jhalakathi

At least 11 people were killed in a three-way collision between a car, truck and an auto-rickshaw in Jhalakathi district. Several people were also injured in this incident.

The accident took place near the Gabkhan Bridge area of Jhalakathi on Wednesday (17 April) noon, Jhalakathi Superintendent of Police Mohammad Afruzul Haque Tutul told the media.

"An auto-rickshaw and car were waiting in line to pay the toll at Gabkhan Bridge. Meanwhile, a cement-carrying truck lost control, hit the vehicles in front and fell on the side of the road. The car and autorickshaw were crushed under the truck. 7 passengers of the autorickshaw and 4 passengers of the car died on the spot," he added.

The car is still under the cement truck till the filing of this report at 3pm. 

Fire service personnel are trying to recover it.

The identities of the victims were not immediately known.

According to local sources, the number of casualties may increase.

Jhalkathi Sadar Hospital Resident Medical Officer Dr Mehdi Hasan Sani said the bodies of 6 people killed in the road accident have been kept in the morgue.
