Amid the scorching heatwave that has gripped Dhaka for the past few days, relief finally arrived as Dhaka was blessed with the first rains of Baishakh on Tuesday afternoon (16 April).

As city dwellers sweltered under the relentless sun, the rain accompanied by gusty and squally winds provided a refreshing break from the oppressive heat and offered relief to its inhabitants.

The change in weather follows the forecast by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), which had predicted relief from the heatwave.

The BMD forecast stated, “In the next 24 hours, there may be temporary rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds in some places in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rangpur, and Sylhet divisions.”
