The bus terminals in the capital’s Gabtoli and Kallyanpur have been nearly empty a day before Eid.

According to bus companies, the lower number of passengers a day before Eid is due to the confusion over when would Eid be and as most have already left the capital on Tuesday (9 April).

Visiting the two bus terminals on Wednesday (10 April), staff in charge of various bus counters were sitting idle and waiting for passengers.

Even if one or two passengers show up, all the bus company workers were seen scrambling to offer tickets of their bus service.

Bus transport companies said they didn’t expect such low pressure of passengers a day before Eid.

Abul Hossain, who is in charge at the VIP counter of Hanif Enterprise in Kallyanpur, said, “People have already returned home thinking Eid would be on Wednesday. Moreover, there were more train passengers this time.”

“Companies like ours have to call for passengers on the road today due to a passenger crisis,” said an employee of the Nabeel Paribahan counter.

Ramzan Ali, manager of Anita Enterprises, said, "We don't have any passengers. The people of North Bengal have already left.”

Meanwhile, even if there is no passenger pressure, the members of the law and order forces are on alert.

The policemen in charge of security were seen patrolling Gabtoli and nearby areas to ensure security.
