A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on former fisheries and livestock minister Abdur Rahman.

Acting Judge Farzana Yasmin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order on Sunday (6 October).

The ruling was made in response to a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The commission’s Deputy Director, Md. Anwarul Haque, filed the application with the court.

According to the petition, an investigation is underway into allegations that Abdur Rahman misused his authority and engaged in various irregularities and corruption to embezzle government funds, accumulating wealth beyond his known sources of income in his own name and in the names of family members.

Reliable sources indicated that Abdur Rahman might attempt to flee the country.

Therefore, a court order restricting his departure from Bangladesh was deemed necessary for the proper conduct of the investigation.

Mahmud Hossain Jahangir, the lawyer for the commission, presented the petition before the court.
