BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for elections to be held within a reasonable time, clarifying that "reasonable time" does not mean an extended period.

He emphasised that the sooner the elections take place, the better it will be for the country.

Speaking at a memorial event for BNP leader ASM Hannan Shah on Friday (September 27) at the Kapasia Government Pilot High School field in Gazipur, Fakhrul stated, "Reforms must be made swiftly, and power should be transferred to the people through elections. If necessary, we will take to the streets again to establish democracy."

He urged the creation of an environment conducive to free and fair elections as quickly as possible. “People believe that democracy must be established through free elections,” he said, calling on authorities to ensure voting conditions are met.

Stating that they will not tolerate any delays, Fakhrul demanded the withdrawal of all cases against Tarique Rahman and called for his immediate return to the country.

He emphasized that without the withdrawal of cases against BNP leaders and activists, a neutral environment for elections would never be achieved.

Fakhrul also accused the Awami League of continuing to conspire against the country, alleging that the party is attempting to destabilize the nation.

He warned that the Awami League might create unrest around the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, but assured that the BNP, along with the people, would unitedly confront any challenges.

"Our Hindu brothers are citizens of this country. I assure you, we will tackle any situation together."
