The taskforce formed to reframe the country’s economic strategies will present a short-term plan to the interim government with the goal of achieving desired results within one to two years.
Dr. KAS Murshid, the task force's team leader and former director general of the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), shared this information with the media on Thursday following the task force's first meeting at the Planning Commission in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
“The task force will also propose mid-term and long-term strategies for implementation, which are expected to bring about the desired outcomes within one or two years,” Dr. KAS Murshid stated.
He added, “Our goal is to steer the economy back on a positive track amid the current crisis. Special attention will be given to improving the agriculture sector, industrial production, and development projects.”
In addition to the short-term plan, the committee will also provide recommendations for long-term economic strategies. It will identify gaps in governance within economic sectors and propose measures to prevent inefficiencies, Dr. KAS Murshid added.
Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud also gave directives to the task force at the meeting.
Other members of the taskforce are- former World Bank official Akhtar Mahmood, Professor of Dhaka University's Economics department Dr Selim Raihan, former head of the research department of Commonwealth Secretariat Dr Abdur Razzak, Professor of Yale University's Economics Department Dr Mushfiq Mobarak, Professor of BUET Dr Shamsul Haque, Professor of Dhaka University's Economics department Dr Rumana Huque, former president of MCCI Nasim Manzoor, Research Director of BIDS Dr Monzur Hossain, Executive Director of CPD Dr Fahmida Khatun, Chief Executive Officer of BDjobs AKM Fahim Mashrur and member Secretary of General Economics Division of the Planning Commission Dr Md Kawser Ahmed.
