The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lodged a strong protest against the remarks made by Indian Union Home Minister Amit Shah concerning Bangladeshi nationals during his recent visit to Jharkhand. Amit Shah’s comments, in which he vowed to remove "Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators" from Jharkhand, have sparked diplomatic tension between the two nations.
In a protest note delivered to the Deputy High Commissioner of India in Dhaka on Monday, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep displeasure and concern over the "deplorable" remarks, reads a press release.
The note urged the Indian government to advise its political leaders to refrain from making such "objectionable and unacceptable" statements.
The ministry emphasised that such remarks from a high-ranking official could harm the spirit of mutual respect and cooperation between the two neighboring countries, which have historically maintained friendly relations.
Amit Shah, during his Jharkhand rally, said that the BJP would work to rid the state of "Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators" if the party is elected, a statement that has raised diplomatic concerns in Bangladesh.
