Stability in hill regions is crucial for national peace in Bangladesh, said Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry of Textiles and Jute Adviser Brig Gen (Rtd) M Sakhawat Hossain.

"No one can enjoy peace if the hills remain unsettled," he said during a visit to Bangladesh Marine Academy in Barisal on Sunday (22 September).

He stressed the importance of recognising the suffering of ordinary people amidst ongoing tensions in the hilly regions.

The adviser called upon all parties to contribute to stabilising the situation in the hills, emphasising that unrest would have detrimental effects on everyone involved.

He urged stakeholders to empathise with the hardships faced by the hill communities and to work together to foster peace and harmony.

During his address, he remarked on the alarming scale of corruption, stating, "Over the past fifteen years, various ministries have not merely pilfered from ponds or seas, but have engaged in vast corruption akin to stealing from a Pacific Ocean."

He also reaffirmed the government's commitment to restoring law and order, distancing himself from any notion of mob justice.
