The capital’s fastest public transport, the Metro Rail, is now operational on Fridays, previously its weekly closure day. However, services will commence later in the day, running from 3:30pm until night.

The first train on Fridays will depart Uttara at 3:30pm, and the first train from Motijheel will leave at 3:50pm, said Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited’s (DMTCL) Managing Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf.

Meanwhile the last train from Uttara will depart at 9pm, and from Motijheel at 9:40pm, with trains running at 12-minute intervals on Fridays, he added.

The unfunctional Kazipara station also started operations from Friday (21 September).

Speaking about the Mirpur-10 Metro Station, DMTCL MD said that efforts are underway to open the station as soon as possible.

He further added that an assessment is ongoing to determine the extent of damage to various station items. This process may take an additional seven or eight days. Once the report is received, the financial implications will become clearer.

In the 18 days between 1-18 September (excluding Fridays), the metro rail has carried 49 lakh passengers, said the DMTCL.

During this period, revenue amounted to 20.67 core.

The highest passenger count was recorded on 12 September, with 3 lakh 43 thousand 892 passengers travelling, generating a revenue of Tk1 crore 46 lakh 57 thousand 566, DMTCL added.
