BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that military forces should be granted magistrate powers in areas that have spiralled out of control.

However, he emphasised that such measures in peaceful areas, where political leaders are maintaining order, would only create unnecessary problems. He urged the government to give this matter full consideration.

He made these remarks on Thursday (19 September) during a meeting organised by the Thakurgaon district BNP at the local Press Club’s auditorium.

The event was held to offer support to the families of martyrs and the injured, as part of the ongoing movement against the fascist rule of Sheikh Hasina.

Addressing the interim government, Mirza Fakhrul demanded justice for Sheikh Hasina’s actions, stating, "We fought Pakistan in 1971, and now in 2024, we are fighting against a political party in our own country."

He alleged that over 700 people had been forcibly disappeared during Hasina's authoritarian regime, with thousands more killed. He further accused the government of filing false cases against Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman, and ordinary citizens, leaving them destitute.

"In Thakurgaon alone, nine people have been killed during their time in power," he added.

Mirza Fakhrul expressed his desire for an election in which all parties could participate, advocating for a democratic state and parliament where politicians can function freely, and political stability is restored.

He also called for employment opportunities to be created for the families of martyrs and those injured in the movement.

As part of the anti-Hasina movement, financial aid amounting to Tk15 lakh was provided to four martyr families and 29 injured individuals in Thakurgaon.

The event was attended by district BNP General Secretary Mirza Faisal Amin, Vice-President Obaidullah Masud, as well as other leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations.
