A Dhaka court has approved a five-day remand for Salman F Rahman, the former prime minister’s adviser on Industry and Investment, and Anisul Huq, former law minister, in a case filed under the Foreign Exchange Control Act.

Both individuals were brought to Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court at 8am on Thursday (19 September).

Following this, Sub-Inspector Md Rashidul Hasan of Kotwali Police Station, the investigating officer in the case, requested a seven-day remand for the accused.

During the hearing, the defence appealed for the remand to be cancelled and sought bail for their clients.

However, the prosecution opposed the bail plea. After hearing arguments from both sides, Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Rahman denied bail and granted a five-day remand.

The case was initially filed on 13 September by Sub-Inspector Md Sajib Mia of New Market Police Station at Kotwali Police Station, invoking the Foreign Exchange Control Act.

It is noteworthy that Salman F Rahman and Anisul Haque were arrested on 13 August from the Sadarghat area of the capital while attempting to flee via waterways, based on secret intelligence information.
