Workers resumed their duties at most RMG factories in Ashulia's industrial area as per the scheduled time. However, 25 factories remain closed, comprising five on general leave and 20 observing closure under Section 13(1) of the Labour Law.
"To prevent any untoward incidents, law enforcement agencies have intensified their presence in the industrial area," said Police Superintendent (Industrial Police-1) Sarwar Alam on Wednesday (18 September).
At the Narsinghpur area on the Bypail-Abdullahpur road, military personnel, along with members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and police, have been stationed in front of various factories.
The army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and police are conducting patrols on the roads.
According to Industrial Police-1, the majority of the closed factories are garment manufacturing units.
However, among the closed establishments are some involved in pharmaceuticals, leather products, and other industries.
20 factories are closed under Section 13(1) of the Labour Law of 2006, while the remaining five have been shut down by the factory management.
Police Superintendent Sarwar Alam stated that today 25 factories are closed, with five observing general leave and 20 adhering to the Labour Law provision.
This follows the closure of 31 factories the previous day. The closed factories include those engaged in pharmaceuticals, leather goods, and various other types of production. Nevertheless, the situation remains calm with no reports of barricades or protests, and road traffic is normal.
On 17 September, the industrial area experienced sudden unrest, resulting in the death of a female worker.
Consequently, the Mascot Garments factory remains closed today.
Recent days have seen ongoing unrest in several factories within Ashulia, stemming from disputes between workers and management.
Many factories have declared general leave or indefinite closure due to these disputes.
