An explosion in a rice bran oil factory’s reserve tank in Sherpur, Bogura, claimed the lives of four workers, who succumbed to severe injuries after falling from the tank during welding repairs

A tragic explosion at a rice bran oil reserve tank claimed the lives of four workers in Bogura on Thursday (12 September).

The incident occurred at around 1:15 pm at Majumdar Products Limited, a rice bran oil production factory in the Bhabanipur area of the upazila, said Sherpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rezaul Karim.

Among the deceased, one worker has been identified as Imran Hossain, 32, son of Abdur Khalek, hailing from the Officer Colony in Syedpur Upazila of Nilphamari district.

According to OC Rezaul Karim, the 50-foot-high reserve tank at Majumdar Products Limited was used for storing oil. Four workers were on top of the tank, conducting repair work using an electric welding machine when the tank suddenly exploded.

The blast caused severe burns to the workers, who then fell to the ground. They were immediately rushed to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

The OC further stated that the identities of the remaining victims are being collected, and efforts are underway to contact their families. Legal action will be taken in connection with the incident.
