The body of singer Moni Kishore was recovered from a residence in the Rampura area of the capital on Saturday (19 October).

"Moni was renting a house behind the BTV building, and the police found his body inside the premises," stated Ataur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station.

According to Rahman, Moni had been living alone in the house, which was locked from the inside. The landlord, who attempted to collect the rent today, rang the doorbell multiple times but received no response.

"Furthermore, a foul smell emanating from within the house raised his suspicions," Rahman explained.

The landlord subsequently contacted the national emergency service number 999 to report the situation. Following this, police arrived at the flat and forced entry to recover the body.

The OC confirmed that by the time the police found the body, it had begun to decompose. "It is presumed that he died several days ago. The exact time and cause of death will be determined after the autopsy," he added.

Moni Kishore, who released his last album nearly a decade ago, continued to engage with audiences through occasional radio and television performances, as well as irregular stage shows. Before his foray into the music industry, Moni was involved in the clothing business, which he maintained even during his intermittent musical career.

Over his lifetime, Moni Kishore recorded over five hundred songs. Some of his most popular tracks include "Ki Chile Amar Bolona Tumi," "Ami More Gele," "Phool Jhore Tara Jhore," "Mukhe Bolo Valobashi," and "Ami Gharer Khoje."

The investigation into his death is ongoing, with authorities awaiting the autopsy results to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
